Achimota Community Arts Project consists of two things:
An adult, professional marimba band and a training programme for children, teaching marimba playing and dance. The training programme is set up as a non-profit organisation.

Achimota is a totally grassroots, community-based band from Orange Farm township, near Soweto. Their traditional marimba sounds are mixed with blues and folk influences from the two 'white' members of the band.
This rough and ready potent mixture was skillfully blended by producer Brendan Jury on Achimota’s first full-length CD, Ukuxolelana, to create an album with both soul and jive. The lyrics, sung in Sotho, Shona, Zulu and English, reflect issues of urban life in the New South Africa. As the name Achimota implies, don’t ask, just listen!
